Drama mask topeng of Gonjaka, probably a character in a wayang topeng dance drama based on the Mahabharata, an epic story originally from India. Eyes, noses and beaks are made of a light-weight, air drying modeling material, then sealed with paper-mache, acrylics and polyurethane. My masks are intended for costume use and have a soft fabric liner for comfort. However, as many people buy them purely for decoration, I do provide wall hanging display hooks. Once again, each mask is hand-made, so expect slight variations. |

Studies show that the influence of the Nuo Drama mask extends to the facial painting of Beijing Opera and the face changes of Sichuan Opera.Nuo Drama was at one time very popular in every part of China, but with social development faded out in most parts, remaining popular only in southwest China, such as Guizhou, in eastern Yunnan, southern Sichuan and Chongqing, in southwest Hubei and western Hunan and in northern Guangxi. Nuo Dramas vary considerably in different areas. Each of my masks is hand made with great attention to detail and construction, making them as comfortable to wear as they are enjoyable to look at. |
